The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of Corporate Blogging and Facebook Groups

Today marked the last class for my summer term social media class, and what a great class it has been. Learning this new medium has opened my eyes to so many things. I’m excited to learn more about this because i see it as a great way to do an integrated campaign. Think of the “golden age” of TVCs era. Now think of the endless possibilities of Social media and how its gonna be huge in Asia. We’re approaching an era that as marketers or PR personal, it’s gonna be one hell of a ride! Can’t put it in a better than with Calvin and Hobbes on social media.

Some posts I read came up in our class discussions before. I mean we all know the advantages of corporate blogging, greater outreach to stakeholder’s better relationships with them, etc. But I think Walter has presented another side of the fence which can truly deter ppl from using a corporate blog! Now, do we use it cause after weighing the pros and cons? Does a cost/benefit analysis come into play? Why do we even have a corporate blog in the first place? Is it necessary? Think Think…. Gonna measure this up with the right questions soon…

Now here’s a strong advocate of Facebook, SMUG (That’s the name of this blog, for real!), great great reasons for using a facebook group for a business. But i think it really boils down to who’s your target market? What’s them message you want to communicate? Is the qualitative data collected from there worth the effort of keeping a Facebook account? I hate to see another Pfingo group with 7 ppl in it (4 are from the group doing the Pfingo case study)

But i loved the fact that internal comms was covered with one of the uses was for a free intranet, what a cool idea… Hopefully the culture of the company and the people working there can fit into such a casual setting.
