Right, so this post was inspired by Natalie’s video as shown below.
While I appreciate Natalie’s humour ( Yeah, U go gal, i’m one of them with small eyes too) I wonder if social media has torn or brought the fabric of racism further or closer…. I mean just look at how harsh those comments are. Are Gen Y’s samrt enough to know how dumb those comments actually make that idiot look or does it stir a darker side in us….
I mean web 2.0 has brought us closer together like never b4, yet there’re still micro groups of racial communities together within a social networking site. Yet, there’re also blogs who’re trying to understand other cultures.
I’m not thinking of intercultural behaviors of individualism and collectivism.. I don’t care for the power distance index because China is a great example of breaking its own cultural barrier online…. I’m wondering on a broader and a more personal level.
Which begets the question, has social media torn the racism fabric or has it stiched us a little tigheter together so we understand each other’s culture better. What do u think?
