PodCamp 2008

Having attended my first PodCamp yesterday, I was really glad i hauled myself outta bed on a rainy Saturday morning. The session worked with 2 speakers ongoing in 2 separate rooms and podcampers were able to choose which speaker they wanted to listen to.

1) The first talk was by Melvin Yuan and Walter Lim who shared the stage. Both speakers provided wonderful insights for digital movement.

I’ve always heard of how Walter has successfully integrated heritage with social media tools, but seeing the presentation of what’s been done and what’s going to happen is quite another experience. It gets you excited, hahaha…

Melvin, on the other hand, piqued my curiosity when he mentioned looking forward to next year, and predicting what the digital media scene in Singapore would be like. The idea that PR agencies need to collaborate more sparked off some ideas which i would share in a later post. I loved the Obama sign example, hahahaha….

2) Charlie Pownall from Burson Marsteller was the next speaker with e-influencers. Loved the stats he had, wished it was more skewed to the Asian scene. Apparently they’re going to be doing a similar study on e-influencers in Asia next year!

3) Brian Koh from Ogilvy PR was up next. His talk on ethics in blogging and the kind of relationship agencies have with bloggers, transactional or engagement, was mentioned. Daryl’s post on paying bloggers was mentioned. It brought about quite a lively discussion which had very insightful points! This too sparked another idea inside which was linked to the idea generated while listening to Melvin.

4) Michael Netzley was on next. I missed most of the session (not intentionally, i forgot the time!) cause i was eating lunch with Robin and 2 wonderful ladies from Fleishman, Denise and Samantha. By the time i got in, the presentation had ended but i figured it was using wikis in workplace (which i strongly recommend because the amount of emails flying back and forth does not help at times). It was comforting to see professionals in the industry beginning to take an interest in the use of wikis for collaboration.

5) The last speaker was the ever wonderful Amelia! (See, i told you i’ll be there for your talk!) She talked about her blogging journey. One word of caution when going to her blog: IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO EAT AND YOU’RE HAVING HUNGER PANGS, DON’T GO TO HER BLOG! THE FOOD IS SOOOO TEMPTING!! But if you’re a glutton like me, just going there makes you wanna eat everything she puts up, hahaha…

All in all, I enjoyed myself very much and I’m pretty excited about this new idea that I have coming away from podcamp. Being a graduate student, i can’t wait to share this idea that i have been munching on…

But kudos to Claudia for blogging live and to the Tech 65 guys (You’ll look better in person!)

But i think the team that organized the podcamp deserves the cheers as well! Good job Robin, Tim Young, Geri, Hongxi and Yi Xuan.

For photos of the events, you can cheek them out here.
