As we draw closer to the end of the year, I must say I’ve had a pretty good year. Finally deciding Public Relations is the industry I want to pursue my career in, having an awesome internship at Yahoo!, graduating from school and having won a PR student award. Not too bad
So everyone’s been posting what their predictions are. You can see a collaborated post by Jason Falls on what the predictions are here.
My humble predictions are these:
1) Traditional Newspapers will go digital, ditch their current business model of subscription fees and incorporate applications to accommodate citizen journalism into their day to day production.
2) Mobile to play a vital role in Asia as reduced budgets mean companies start looking for cheaper advertising mediums to reach out to consumers
3) ROI for social media to be worked out across different regions with industry benchmarks being set by industry players and having it worked down to a science (Especially the relationship between ROI and reputation)
So that’s all i have for predictions. However, for resolutions, this is what i hope to accomplish
1)GET A JOB!!
2) Exercise 2-3 times a week (and do the marathon 2009 and not skip it like this year, lol)
3) Walk Remzy 3-4 times a week (Been walking him at irregular times, not too good for the big boy)
4) Learn Yoga(I’m really inflexible, back problems don’t help too)
5) Learn Spanish (All i can remember is Hola! Como se yamas? See, I’m that bad…)
6) Travel (4 to 6 are all done with Vivian)
So there you go!! What’re your predictionsand resolutions for 2009? Do share! Happy new year!
I don’t remember when was the first time i touched a mouse as a kid, but it sure feels good to know that this simple technology has been ard for a while.
once again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOUSE!! (Wonder if there’s a bash gonna be held for this)
First off, I’ll like to thank every1 for their well wishes. Yup, I’ve gotten the PR student of the year award 2008 and this week’s JUST FOR FUN TUESDAY will be a shameless self promotion of the good news ( I’ve learnt PR ppl like to exploit stories so i gotta do it too, wahahahaha).
Check me out in this file on pg 10! wahahaha…. My domestic helper helped me to take that pic. Read my campaign too! Having a site which is a social media platform rather than a meta blog, was one of my fav parts. The hardest part of this all was doing a campaign for women! I watched WHAT WOMEN WANT and WIZARD OF OZ just to draw an inspiration.
Anyhows, just wanted to share what the experience was like at the events itself. As much as i wanted to sing this…
I was wayyyyy nervous!
I mean look at the crowd at the event! Those aren’t the usual ppl i hang ard with, their like future bosses!
So there I was with Vic and Yaz(The other 2 contestents with me) wondering what r 3 students hanging ard here gonna do? But they were nice ppl and made things really comfortable. It was a pretty kick ass blacktie event too! I mean, i haven’t actually seen name cards for a desginated seat at a table! That was cool.
What was interesting was the various campaign which was up for the awards. I usually look at campaigns in the west but not too much of those in Asia and this was a real eye opener! The file linked on top has all the great campaign which won their respective catagories. Do take a read, was wondering if more could have had a web2.0 medium used more creatively.
Anyhows, when the results were announced, I wasn’t overjoyed like some of my friends asked. I was relieved actually.
I was just glad it was over and to have that beer with Vivian and a couple of friends later that night.
I might not have been able to make a speech there but there are some ppl which i think deserve a big THANK YOU!
Firstly, to my prof, Gregor Halff, who has been a great help in pointing out what would and wouldn’t work in my campaign. Secondly to my family and Remzy for having faith (although i know you just wanna eat Remzy). Lastly, to my wonderful partner Vivian for encouraging me all the way and having that confidence in me. ( Thanks for coming with me too, Hong Kong was fun!)
With that, the person who googled MARK KHOO PR STUDENT OF THE YEAR 2008 can now come here straghit without having to go through some odd links to come to my blog. Thanks for all the well wishes guys! (This is so cool, i get to tag my own name)
What happens when you take the core product that symolizes a brand outta the brand’s line of products. Like taking coke out of coca-cola. Taking the iPod outta Apple’s line of products. Taking the Google search engine out of Google.
How would consumers react? Check this video out!
People FREAK out! We’re suckers for brands, wahahahaha… Have a good week ahead, hope to come back with good news when i put on the next post! Peace..
Woohooo! It’s over!! Anyhows, it’s a crazy week for me with 3 presentations for the next 3 days.I know the Plruk guys have seen this but for my blog readers, here’s a treat!
So I’ll keep this short and if there’s one take away you need to know it’s this…
A dog doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor. Give him your heart and he’ll give you his….
We made it. Yup, be proud that we did. Tuesday’s over!!!! Anyhows, today i want you to think of how you would live your live if you knew you only had a lifespan of 10 years….
How would your priorities change? How would you treat your loved ones? Is there anything you would do differently?
Why do i ask this? Because a dog’s avg life span is about 10 years, yet their enthusiasm and zest for life, their unfailing loyalty and their appreciation of the simple things are something which we should and can learn.
What inspired this post? I watched 10 promises yesterday and i thought it would be a good reflection of how we can lead our lives in a more simple manner. Enjoy the trailer, watch the show and give me your feedback…
Wow, it’s another week pass and u’ve passed THE day…. lol… Anyhows, today I’ll be sharing about Blog Action Day. I learnt about it from Priscilla‘s post and it’s a really interesting social campaign. This campaign basically asks bloggers around the world to join in and blog (Blog, video, etc.) about a common social topic on the same day, and this year it’s on the 15th Oct 2008. Last year’s topic was environmental and this year’s topic is poverty.
Basically, using the theme of you blog (Tech, Fashion, food, etc..) and see how your blog can help to ease some of the social problem by spreading a good message around.
And ppl said only bloggers of the same category should be invited to join an initiative, I think this exception is truly wonderful and a worthy cause…I’ll blog about it from a marketing perspective and why i think what a wonderful cause this is later in the week.
Current count 8834 sites with a readership of near 9.5 million.
Ughhh… It hasn’t been a good Tuesday… Back frm a hol and wish i was still there with Vivian…
Anyhows, for those who have been having a crappy Tuesday like myself, just wanna share two stand up comedians i think you would enjoy.
First, we have Jeff Dunham, a ventriloquist and a bloody good one at that. U can check out videos of him and Achmed below, i highly recommend the next one with Walter running for president as well!
Next we have the all famous comedian Russell Peters. I’m sure most of you have heard of him (He’s retired, wth!!!) and below are 2 of my fac clips of his last act in san fran.
Titled Outsoruce, you can pretty much watch the whole darn thing on Youtube, lol…
Between you and me, I like the British jokes and the Chinese ones the best, wahahahaha….
Gratz on making it pass what i call the worst day of the week! For all Muslim readers, Happy Hari Raya and for all Singaporeans, enjoy the hol tmr (while i’ll be mugging in sch for ethics…)
Anyhows, today’s post will be short cause I just finished doing some work and i’m pretty beat…
But I can’t contain my excitement and I wanna share 2 sites with you. Remember how is tot there were 2 industries whereby web2.0 can be used perfectly because of the community spirit within these industries?
Well, I’ve been given a chance to view them and let’s start with the pet industry!
Vivian has shown me this social networking site for pets! I remember saying on my post on Pet Industry and social media in Singapore and how i tot web 2.0 would fit in perfectly!
Well, the social networking site is called wuffstaff for dog owners and it’s a pretty cool site whereby dog owners come together and share photos, stories, swap discussions on a social networking site! Neat huh?
Thank Vivian!
Next, i wanna share a social networking site on the sports industry. Oscar stumbled upon my post on Sports and Web2.0=Sports 2.0, Should Asia Embrace it? He’s got an interesting sports social networking site called sporting connections he’s set up for sports people to gather and not only discuss, but arrange team matches, training sessions etc.
However, his comments on my post were that while his target market were for Asians to join in, he’s getting more and more European based members.
I’ve asked him how has he engaged the Asian audience but he has yet to reply. While I haven’t seen any efforts to push the site out to Asians, I believe that by posting it on relevant sporting sites (soccer’s pretty big here in South East Asia, basketball’s huge in China) and engaging people who are on those sites to come and join his site.
I really hope to see his site take off cause its got so much potential! So does Wuffstaff, great examples of how industries have leveraged on the community spirit of the industry and used a medium which leverages on precisely the same thing!
Knock yourselves over those sites and have a good holiday as you read this. To the readers who don’t celebrate Hari Raya, its Wednesday, hang in there, we’re reaching the weekend!
