Gratz on making it pass what i call the worst day of the week! For all Muslim readers, Happy Hari Raya and for all Singaporeans, enjoy the hol tmr (while i’ll be mugging in sch for ethics…)
Anyhows, today’s post will be short cause I just finished doing some work and i’m pretty beat…
But I can’t contain my excitement and I wanna share 2 sites with you. Remember how is tot there were 2 industries whereby web2.0 can be used perfectly because of the community spirit within these industries?
Well, I’ve been given a chance to view them and let’s start with the pet industry!
Vivian has shown me this social networking site for pets! I remember saying on my post on Pet Industry and social media in Singapore and how i tot web 2.0 would fit in perfectly!
Well, the social networking site is called wuffstaff for dog owners and it’s a pretty cool site whereby dog owners come together and share photos, stories, swap discussions on a social networking site! Neat huh?
Thank Vivian!
Next, i wanna share a social networking site on the sports industry. Oscar stumbled upon my post on Sports and Web2.0=Sports 2.0, Should Asia Embrace it? He’s got an interesting sports social networking site called sporting connections he’s set up for sports people to gather and not only discuss, but arrange team matches, training sessions etc.
However, his comments on my post were that while his target market were for Asians to join in, he’s getting more and more European based members.
I’ve asked him how has he engaged the Asian audience but he has yet to reply. While I haven’t seen any efforts to push the site out to Asians, I believe that by posting it on relevant sporting sites (soccer’s pretty big here in South East Asia, basketball’s huge in China) and engaging people who are on those sites to come and join his site.
I really hope to see his site take off cause its got so much potential! So does Wuffstaff, great examples of how industries have leveraged on the community spirit of the industry and used a medium which leverages on precisely the same thing!
Knock yourselves over those sites and have a good holiday as you read this. To the readers who don’t celebrate Hari Raya, its Wednesday, hang in there, we’re reaching the weekend!
Right, I realized a strong preference on my part to the canines. People have been asking what about the kitties!! So this post is dedicated to the fury feline friends…
Kim, this one’s for you!
Now this is a classic face of getting caught for doing something wrong!
Kim, is his/her name Mika? Anyways, Mika and the rest of ‘em aren’t allowed on the bed and she was caught just doing that! And i tot all cats were quick, lol… What a sweetie…
Jez (Below, I hope i got the names right!) obviously has not much care for the house rules.. I love it whn pets sleep like that and ask for a tummy rub (Remzy and Lucky always do anyways…) Wait, do cats like tummy rubs? Man I’m feline dumb…
But he reminds me of a certain orange cat…
Heh… I love Garfield…
Ya know, i realized i dun know too much about cats, they’re elusive, elegant sometimes but much harder to understand than dogs… I have one of the Big cats in my Chinese name though… Cool huh? I got a wicked Chinese name, wahahahaha…
Well, Kim you gotta help me with this post, I’m getting a little lost!! (So much for my time with PAW, lol…) It’s a Friday, enjoy the weekend and i’ll be touching on citizen journalism next!!
Man… You know ur day is bad when the post you almost finished hangs and you have to redo everything…. ah wells…. At least Monday is over!!
Not much to wrap up this week, but we’ll just do a quick run through for those who drop by here once a week…
So I talked about Asia, Chicks and the Future. First thing i learnt about using a title and using tags that contain “Asia” and “Chicks” can lead people looking for different things to my site. For example, some of the terms used to come to my site were “Asian chicks”, “Hot Asian Chicks”…. You get my point… careful tagging and headers are important… I don;t want my blog to be the top search for a porn search…
Asia is kicking ass, we’re huge and unstoppable. Unfortunately or fortunately, we’re so diversed its hard to groups us in any one same group…. So with various sites looking for more information on Asia, or like Michael likes to say, the swede sitting in Hong Kong looking to do a PR campaign in Asia, what’s he to do?
Well, you can start with this awesome wiki, PR and social Media Across Asia, which I’ve been using for my Yahoo! stuff… Fantastic info spoonfed to you huh?
I discussed the use of social media and how its applies differently to the each gender… Sex and the City provided a great example of the widgets on facebook, the online games, etc… It was tuned to appeal to the fairer sex… What appeals to guys? James Bond’s been working pretty well, excpet to marketers who see it as THE ultimate product placment movie… lol…
The futureof social media? I’ll Just stick to this line “Technology changes, humans don’t”… No point putting a bill board in the middle of the desert and no point using bloggers who you know can destroy your brand…So simple yet so bloody hard… Wait till we drill down to ROI after that… haha…
Then we have Plurking!!!! I talked about the differences between Twitter and possible benefits a company can get using it.. Of course, it might ave some disadvantages… You gotta find the right guy to do this… A microblog is an on going conversation… Doesn’t carry on from 9-5 only, it’s after 5 and weekends too… Slow response can incur the wrath of some consumers and you certainly don;t want that… which brings me back to the point of taking a step back… Why use a microblog? What do you hope to achieve? Can we maintain this?
Lastly… we have introducing Fury friends part 1 and my introduction of Vivian’s dog Lucky!!! Yes, i have a soft spot for our fury friends if you haven’t realized, but hey, to me they’re worth it… Look out for the feline edition soon!
To end of here’s the trailer of Marley and Me!!!!!! Like omg!!!!! Wohooo, see you tmr for “JUST FOR FUN TUESDAY!!!”
Ah, what a busy Thursday and Friday… Been completly knocked out after coming back everyday…
Anyways, with my post on JUST FOR FUN TUESDAY i had requests to put up other fury friends. So this is a 2 part special, but firstly, let me introduce Lucky!
Lucky is a Jack Russell who’s a good 10 years old! But he’s ultra cute and hyper for an old man…
Gotta love the superman outfit huh? lol… haha…
The bumble bee pic got Lucky into the finals of the PAW photo competition done annually at SMU… Remzy
unfortunately for 3 years running never won anything.. (Nobody loves a bull mastiff’s face, lol…)
And damn, but I’ve never seen a dog more scared of water… (Check outhis swimming pic, hahahaha)
But he’s going to the vet today and that’s gonna be hell lot worse for him, lol…
Well, i got nothing much more to share except that he’s a lovable (and at times irritating) little boy… I’ll let Vivian do more of the talking when she’s done setting up her own blog.
To avoid comments on a canine preference, Part 2 will include feline friends!
Previously on JUST FOR FUN TUESDAY…. Mark commented on his music preference, what new and exciting things will he be sharing this week to reveal a more personal side you didn’t know?
Man, if i ever do a video post, that’s how I’ll start it, lol…. Heros style!
But today isn’t about explosive action, it’s gonna be about….
No, not my baby boy (Cute huh at 2 months)
Even cuter at 3 years, lol…. But yes, today I’ll be talking about dogs. No, not about saving dogs and social welfare courses for the likes of SPCA and ASD. I’m not saying it’s not important to save them, hell, it is! Damn abandon rate is increasing and AVA’s increase in license ownership fees isn’t helping.. Not to mention the damn fines… Wake up AVA!!
As a proud member of SMU’s PAW (Yes, i ran for the exco too…), I believe its important for people to understand what dogs mean to humans before you go about preaching saving them… It hasn’t always been about us saving them, they’ve saved us countless times…
See his story, it’s a good one. As a roman catholic, i never knew my saint when i was gonna receive my confirmation… Even till junior college, i never really went to find out.. (Don’t doubt my firm religious beliefs!) But what a coincidence when after i bought Remzy that i decided to read up and found out my saint always had a picture of a dog with him and how the dog did save his life.
There’re many stories where dogs do save people’s life, brining them back from the brink of despair… For the life of me, I cant remember the titles of the shows… But some of the storylines goes…
There was a story of how an abandoned labardor who gave a blind man hope in life by being his guide dog, a japanesse show…
There was also the story of how a faithful labador went to find his owner who abandoned him cause the owner blamed the dog for his sister’s death…
Then there’s the all time classic story of Hachikō… The tale of the faithful dog… Japanese really know how to bring out the true side to how dogs feel about us and how we feel about them…
Why are the Japanese so good at this? They have a crazy affection for pets, I don’t blame them,I do too… They know what its like to have a dog, to know how to receive a dog’s unaffectionate loyalty and love, while giving it back at the same time.
It’ll be great to do a social media study on the pets industry there… They have social networking sites for pets… Amazing huh? I mean we have dog Facebook groups here, but nothing compared to theirs!
Europe is a great place for dogs too, a walk in Venice or Switzerland and you’ll see how much access the dogs can get! (Ok… I gotta control myself or I’ll start swearing at AVA again…)
America is a great place too, and the shows they make on dogs usually are of a comedy or action genre.. Here’s one of my favourite dog shows… See Spot Run, notice the dog is extremely good looking… Go Bull Mastiffs!
Marley and Me the movie is gonna change all that. Josh really got it down to expressing what dogs can do for us…. (I know, this is the what time I’ve linked the blog? See, power of social media and its free branding efforts, I’m a classic example)
So before i end, I hope you are able to take away that dogs are not just pets (And no, i’ m not preaching a “Don’t abandon your dogs” campaign)
They can be your lifelong friend even after they are gone… The memories they give us and the lesson they can teach us… What lessons are those? I’ll end it off with one of Josh Grogan’s quote…
I have this theory, and writing the book sharpened it, that people can learn a lot from their dogs. Lessons on how to lead happier, more fulfilling lives. Lessons for successful relationships. Think about it. Many of the qualities that come so effortlessly to dogs – loyalty, devotion, selflessness, unflagging optimism, unqualified love – can be elusive to humans. My hunch is that people who act more like dogs have happier marriages. That’s assuming, of course, you don’t marry someone who emulates cats. Then you’re in trouble. Cats will outsmart dogs every time.
There’s so much more I wanna say and I’m sure dog owners all have the same willingness to share their dogs stories, so do share some with me!
What’s everyone’s take on the pets community? Are we more powerful than some loyal brands fan base? Hell we are, we cross demographics, cultural, language and geographical boundries… Social media just made us so much more powerful…. We now share like never before and reaching out to us through our dogs with a note worthy message is reaching us on an emotional level…
Till next week, all those with dogs, give them a good tummy rub or a snack for me! Remzy and I signing out!
